Former Twins outfielder Shannon Stewart has reached a 1-year agreement with the  Oakland A's for a reported 2.5 million pending a physical. Stewart, 32, is a .299 career hitter with 102 home runs in 11 seasons with Toronto and Minnesota. Last year, the Twins transferred Stewart to the 60-day disabled list on Sept. 1 after acquiring Phil Nevin from the Chicago Cubs. Stewart has suffered debilitating plantar fascia problems with his feet in recent years. ... (more)

Since 2003, Mark Prior has won 18 games, including just one last year. So much promise has gone unfulfilled for the Chicago Cubs' once-bright star that the future is unccertain at best. Yet the 26-year-old Prior came to terms for '07 with the Cubbies, both sides officially avoiding salary arbitration. The right-hander will make close to his '06 pay, about 3.6 million. Last year Prior pitched in just 43 innings, with a 1-6 record and a 7.21 ERA. ... (more)
